Exploring the Building Blocks of Life: Mrs. Taylor’s 7th Graders Dive into Biology with Microscopes and Dissections Students in Mrs. Taylor's 7th grade science classes have begun a unit on biology. Students have been learning to use microscopes to observe cells, and most recently dissected a chicken wing to observe tissues and organs. Students were also able to make comparisons to their own arm since the anatomy of the chicken wing has similar structure and functions. Students observed skin tissue, muscle tissue, connective tissue and bone. By squeezing a muscle students were able to see how muscles and bones interact to create motion of the limb. At the end of the lab, students broke a bone to observe the bone marrow, where blood cells are made. Print
