SMS Environment Club’s Project: Birdhouses for Tree Swallows

Secaucus Middle School’s Environment Club tackled a hands-on project today to aid local tree swallows, birds that help control our mosquito population by eating 1.5 times their body weight in mosquitoes daily.

The students built birdhouses, donated by the Secaucus Environmental Department, which will be placed along the Meadowlands Marsh. This initiative helps increase the swallow population, promoting a natural method to keep mosquito numbers down without harmful chemicals.

A big thank you to our Environment Club members for their dedication to supporting our ecosystem and learning about sustainable environmental practices!
